Altemius Milinga, Executive Director and Co-Founder

Altemius Millinga is an economist and entrepreneur with 18 years experience in microfinance and small enterprise development. Mr. Millinga was one of the founders of YOSEFO in 1996 and became executive director of the organization in 1998.

Mr. Millinga has a B.A. in Economics from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and a Masters of Policy Economics with Minor Concentration in Gender and International Development from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (USA), which he attended under a Fullbright scholarship.  He studied Microfinance and Microenterprise Development with the Nobel Prize-winning Grameen Bank in Bangladesh (1989), Cranfield University in the UK (1990), and AOTS in Kenshu, Japan.

Before arriving at YOSEFO Mr. Millinga has held a number of positions, including Program Coordinator with Presidential Trust Fund for Self Reliance, Assistant Project Coordinator with the Credit for Action To Assist Rural Women Project of International Labour Organization, Program Advisor for Civil Service and Local Government Reform, and a Consultant in Microfinance programs (program design, reviews, policy analysis, training and product development) in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

He is a founder and Board Member of the Mbinga Community Bank, a regulated regional bank.
